BN Acier is one of the  25 Standardization Offices (BN's), other than AFNOR (Association Française de NORmalisation), approved by the ministry in charge of Industry. 

 The field of competence of BN Acier covers all steel products and their process; preliminary processing (including steels tubes and fittings); and test methods for these products..

The main activity of BN ACIER consists of standardization works at the French, European or International levels. It ensures in particular the role of French committee membre in their field of competence, since the signature of conventions with AFNOR in July 1999.

BN ACIER also ensures the representation of the steel industry in fields in connection with standardization such as accreditation of testing laboratories, certification of quality assurance systems, characterisation of reference materials, certification of steel products and certification of non-destructive testing personnel.

Furthermore, BN ACIER gives technical assistance to the users of steel products, indicating them any information concerning standardization, steel designation, equivalence of grades ...., and participates to the drafting of internal bulletins, metallurgy books or collections.
